Fieragricola focuses on Africa and, in order to provide new business opportunities to its exhibitors, organizes and coordinates a collective participation of companies at the 9th edition of AGRIFEX – Specialized International Agriculture and Food Exhibition – scheduled in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12 to 16 May 2016.
The attention to the African continent and to the emerging countries is already at the center of the 112th edition of Fieragricola – scheduled in Verona from Wednesday 3 to Saturday 6 February – that will host large delegations of buyers from Egypt, Mozambique, Angola, Cameroon, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia and Zambia and will dedicate to these countries special Country Focus. Furthermore, Fieragricola chose to accompany companies to discover Ethiopia, one of the most promising African markets.
Within a generation Ethiopia has transformed itself from a country emblem of poverty in one of the fastest growing economies in the world. For the next three years the average annual GDP growth it is expected to be +7%.
The Ethiopian Government has introduced several initiatives to attract investment in the agricultural sector: tax breaks, land at affordable prices, efficient investment process. To encourage foreign investment has defined favorable procedures: foreign investors can invest on their own or in partnership with local counterparts, with no restrictions on equity ownership in joint investments.
Though Ethiopia has a long history of agricultural practices, the development of mechanization in the sector is still limited; agricultural mechanization, however, has an important role in increasing production and productivity and that’s why the country is strongly focusing on its implementation. There are about ten major local importers and dealers of technologies.
Tractors, harvesters and threshers, soil machinery are the top three types of agricultural machinery imported in the country, followed by other machines and equipment and spare parts. The main supplier countries are China, Italy, Poland, Germany and India.
